Will Hire choose SM Plant to Supply dumpers

Stourbridge-based Will Hire has just added a number of new machines to its fleet in a major order to meet demand following a busy start to 2025.

The company’s Will Gough Jr told me that the latest purchases from local dealer SM Plant Sales include two Slanetrac 1-tonne high-tip tracked dumpers, complementing a 500kg Slanetrac model already in the fleet, plus two Mecalac TA3SH 3-tonne dumpers and a Mecalac 1-tonne TA1 dumper.

“The 3-tonne machines are a new line for us, with our previous largest models being 2-tonne,” he said.

“And we’ve seen growing re-hire demand for the bigger tracked dumpers compared with conventional 1-tonne machines which typically have larger dimensions than a 1.5-tonne excavator they are frequently hired out with.

“The new Slanetracs’ compact dimensions make them more suitable for work in gardens and confined spaces.”

Will Hire also has other Mecalac dumpers in its fleet, including four 2-tonne TA2CH high-lift swivel-tip models.

“We have seen a really positive start to the year with a record-breaking January, and business has been helped by the recent prolonged dry weather,” said Will. “We’ve also redesigned our website which has been very well received.”

The company recently joined the Hire United national network of independent hire businesses, which Will said has brought significant benefits.

“It’s great being part of it. Although we talk to other local independents, being able to swap ideas with hire companies over a larger area makes you feel less isolated and you realise that you share common issues and challenges.”

Also helping to raise Will Hire’s profile in its locality are humorous branded car window stickers piled high on the hire counter, which customers are invited to help themselves to.

“They have always been very popular and we get through a surprising amount of them,” said Will. “Probably every trade professional’s van in Stourbridge and beyond has one now!”
