How are Volvo compact excavators sold in the UK?
Volvo Construction Equipment sold its British dealership to SMT in 2017, including the distribution rights for Volvo machines, parts and aftersales in Great Britain. SMT GB is now the exclusive Volvo CE dealer for England, Scotland and Wales, and Volvo utility equipment under 14 tonnes, which includes the compact excavators, is sold through its network of local Volvo Compact Equipment Partners.
SM Plant in Rugby is one of those partners. Trade press described SM Plant as Volvo CE’s utility dealer as far back as 2016, when RM Group, a Wolverhampton plant hire company, said it had worked with SM Plant for fifteen years. More recently, Carvers Hire Centre in Wolverhampton bought a Volvo EC27D with a hydraulic hitch and Harford buckets from us in 2024.

All three charge through a Type 2 connector, the same type used by many electric cars, and with no exhaust they can work indoors and in noise-sensitive areas. Ask the sales team about availability and charging options.

How do I find the right Volvo part?
- Search the part number. Volvo parts are listed under their Volvo numbers, such as 14615325. Where Volvo has superseded an old number, many part names show it, for example “Replaces 11809003”.
- Find your machine. Use the model list above or parts by machine, and check the letter at the end of the model name (the EC15C and EC15D are different generations), because many parts are listed for one generation only.
- Still stuck? WhatsApp a photo of the old part and your machine’s serial number to 07989 556457, and the parts desk will find it.
Our guide to finding the right part covers this in more detail.
Servicing a Volvo compact excavator
Volvo designs its compacts for quick daily checks. On the EC15E and EC18E the fuel tank hinges out of the way to open up the engine compartment, the daily check points are easy to find, and the greasing interval is 50 hours. On the new EC65, Volvo has extended the service intervals, with DPF cleaning at 8,000 hours and the hydraulic return filter at 1,500 hours.

For filters, belts and wear parts, search your machine above. For servicing and repairs, see servicing or call 01788 555377.
