Who makes Mecalac dumpers?
Groupe Mecalac is based in Annecy, France, and makes excavators, loaders, dumpers and backhoe loaders, including fully electric machines. It started in 1974 as Mécanique du Lac in Annecy-le-Vieux. Since 10 June 2025 it has been wholly owned by the French Fayat Group, keeping its autonomy and the Mecalac name, and it builds machines in France, Germany, the UK and Turkey.
The UK part of the story is older. Benford was founded in 1953, and its site dumpers were later built in Coventry under the Terex name. In December 2016 Mecalac agreed to buy Terex’s Coventry business, which made backhoe loaders, site dumpers and compaction rollers under the Fermec and Benford names, and in 2017 it set up Mecalac Construction Equipment UK to design and build them. In 2023 the dumper and roller lines moved to a new factory in Coventry.
That is why a Benford, a Terex and a Mecalac dumper from the same model line often share parts, and why we list all three together. Specifications changed over the years, so the serial number still matters when you order.
SM Plant and Mecalac
Mecalac Construction Equipment UK signed SM Plant as a dealer for its site dumpers in the Midlands in 2018; trade press reported it that November, with the dealership running from August 2018. Today Mecalac’s dealer locator lists SM Plant Limited in Rugby for site dumpers and compaction rollers, and returns us for the Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Hereford, Oxford, Worcester, Walsall and Wolverhampton postcode areas.
In 2025 Will Hire in Stourbridge bought two Mecalac TA3SH 3 tonne dumpers and a TA1 from us.
Which Mecalac dumpers can I buy?
Mecalac’s dumpers carry from 1 to 9 tonnes, with front-tip, swivel-tip and high-tip skips. The open TA range has a folding ROPS bar, the MDX range has a ROPS/FOPS cab, and the Revotruck has a cab that rotates. These are the TA models on our site now:
Mecalac TA3SH3 tonne payload, 180 degree power swivel skip, 1,846 mm wide.
Mecalac TA99 tonne payload, front tip, one of the few 9 tonne dumpers still sold without a cab.
Mecalac TA1EH1 tonne high-tip skip that tips up to 1.6 m; optional narrow wheels take it through a standard 1 m doorway.

What changed on Mecalac dumpers in 2025?
When the EN 474 safety standard for earthmoving machines changed in 2025, Mecalac updated all 15 of its TA, MDX and Revotruck dumpers. Every model now has hydrostatic transmission, side mirrors and an inclinometer as standard; the 6 and 9 tonne models gained extra side protection with the ROPS; and every model except the TA1 has a front-facing camera. While most manufacturers dropped their cabless 9 tonne dumpers, Mecalac kept the front-tip TA9H, adding a hydrostatic transmission and side guards so it meets the standard.

Mecalac also makes the eMDX, which it calls the first fully electric 6 tonne dumper in the world: a 75 kWh battery gives at least 8 hours of work and recharges in 4 hours from a Type 2 plug or a 5-pin industrial socket.
Mecalac rollers
Mecalac’s roller range comes from the same Coventry business. The MBR71 is a 513 kg single-drum pedestrian roller with a 710 mm drum and a Hatz diesel engine, used on footpaths, highway repairs, cycle lanes and landscaping. It has a hydraulic take-off that can run a breaker. Mecalac redesigned it in 2019, replacing the belt drive with a hydrostatic one, so older MBR71s have a belt drive. Mecalac’s 2023 rollers leaflet also lists the TV800, TV900, TV1000 and TV1200 tandem rollers, with drums from 800 to 1,200 mm.

Servicing a Mecalac dumper
Mecalac designs the TA range for daily checks from ground level, and the MDX has large engine doors on both sides plus a rear panel for the cooling pack. Mecalac’s figures for hydraulic oil are a change every 1,500 hours, or every 3,000 hours if the machine runs on Mecalac Premium ISO VG 46 oil, and Mecalac Premium 10W-40 is the only engine oil it approves for its Stage V engines. Mecalac says machines maintained by a Mecalac dealer with genuine parts and lubricants can earn an extra year’s guarantee; call 01788 555377 for the details.
When you order parts, give us the model and the serial number from the machine’s plate, because specifications changed between serial number ranges.
Questions
Is SM Plant Sales an authorised Mecalac dealer?
Yes. Mecalac’s official dealer locator lists SM Plant Limited in Rugby for site dumpers and compaction rollers, and Mecalac appointed SM Plant as a site dumper dealer for the Midlands in 2018. Call 01788 555377, Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5pm.
Where can I find a Mecalac dealer in the Midlands?
SM Plant Sales in Rugby, which Mecalac appointed as a site dumper dealer for the Midlands in 2018. Mecalac’s dealer locator returns SM Plant for the Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Hereford, Oxford, Worcester, Walsall and Wolverhampton postcode areas.
Are Mecalac, Terex and Benford dumpers the same?
They share a history. Benford dumpers were later built by Terex in Coventry, and Mecalac bought that business in 2017, so dumpers from the same model line often share parts. Specifications changed over the years, so quote your serial number when you order.
Who owns Mecalac?
The French Fayat Group has owned 100% of Groupe Mecalac since 10 June 2025. Mecalac keeps its own name and is based in Annecy, France, with its dumpers and rollers built in Coventry.
Does Mecalac still make a 9 tonne dumper without a cab?
Yes. Mecalac kept the front-tip TA9H after the 2025 EN 474 changes, adding a hydrostatic transmission and side guards. For a 9 tonne dumper with a cab, Mecalac makes the 9MDX and Revotruck 9.
Do you sell parts for Mecalac rollers?
Yes. We list 296 parts for Mecalac, Terex and Benford rollers, including the TV800 to TV1400 tandem rollers and the MBR71 pedestrian roller.
