Who makes Kress tools?
Kress began in 1928, when Christian Kress opened a workshop for car electronics in Germany. The company went on to make electric motors and then power tools, opening a factory in Bisingen in the early 1960s and launching a full professional range of portable power tools in 1969. In 2017 Kress joined the Positec Group, which is headquartered in Suzhou, China, and also owns Worx, and it turned to battery-powered outdoor power equipment for commercial landscapers and demanding homeowners. Kress says it has never made a combustion engine, and never will.
In the UK, Kress products are supplied by Positec (UK & Ireland) Ltd and sold through dealers. SM Plant Sales announced its partnership with Kress in May 2024 and is listed on Kress’s store locator.
Which Kress battery do I need?
Kress has three battery platforms, each with its own batteries:
| Platform | Tools | Batteries |
|---|---|---|
| 60 V Commercial | Model numbers start KC, such as the KC500 and KC510 blowers | CyberSystem CyberPacks, such as the KAC800, KAC804 and KAC810 |
| 60 V Professional | KG models such as the KG163 trimmer | KA3000 to KA3018 |
| 20 V and 40 V KrossPack | 20 V tools such as the KG340 shears; 40 V tools such as the KG154E trimmer, which run on two 20 V packs | KAB02, KAB04 and KAB08 |
A model number ending .9, such as the KG163.9 or KC500.9, is the tool only, without a battery or charger.
The 60 V Commercial CyberSystem, launched in 2023, is built around fast charging: Kress says a CyberPack charges in 8 minutes on its CyberTank charger in boost mode, so a landscaper can run on two batteries, one working and one charging.

How do Kress RTKn robot mowers work without a boundary wire?
Most robot mowers follow a wire buried round the edge of the lawn. Kress RTKn mowers use satellite positioning instead, corrected by Kress’s own network of base station aerials, so there is no boundary wire, no beacons and no aerial to fit on site. Where trees or buildings block the satellite signal, the mower switches to inertial navigation and wheel odometry, and it mows in neat parallel lines. Kress asks buyers to check RTKn coverage with their dealer first, so call us with the address.
| KR160E | KR174E | |
|---|---|---|
| Lawn size | Up to 600 m² | 5,000 m² recommended, 7,500 m² maximum |
| Cutting width | 20 cm, 3 blades | 22 cm, 6 blades in two layers |
| Cutting height | 30 to 60 mm, set electronically | 30 to 60 mm, set electronically |
| Maximum slope | 40% | 40% |
| Battery | 20 V, 4 Ah | 20 V, 6 Ah |
| Obstacle avoidance | On the KR160E.A | Built in |
| Weight | 12 kg | 12.6 kg |
Figures are Kress’s. Both mowers are IPX5 rated, connect over 4G, update themselves over the air and are run from the Kress app, which can manage up to 10 mowers. Kress’s RTKn range goes on to larger mowers for sports fields and golf courses.

Kress warranty
Kress’s UK warranty depends on the product and on whether you register it at kress.com within 30 days of purchase, which adds the extra years shown after the plus sign:
- Robot mowers and their chargers: 2 + 1 years for home use; 1 year or 1,000 hours for professional use.
- 60 V Commercial tools (KC): 2 + 3 years for home use; 2 + 3 years or 300 + 450 hours for professional use.
- 60 V and 40 V tools: 2 + 3 years for home use.
- 20 V tools: 2 + 1 years for home use.
Batteries and chargers have their own terms, so ask us or see Kress’s warranty statement for the details.
Looking after Kress tools and mowers
- Trimmers and blowers: the KG163 trimmer has no user-serviceable parts and should be wiped with a dry cloth, never washed. On the blowers, keep the air intake clear with the battery removed, clean them with a damp cloth, and never use a pressure washer.
- Batteries: charge fully before first use and store them somewhere cool and dry. A battery that runs for much less time than it used to is worn and needs replacing.
- Robot mowers: clean the underside with a brush or damp cloth (a hose is fine, a pressure washer is not) and keep the charging contacts clean. Over winter, clean the mower, charge it fully, switch it off and store it in a shed or garage.
