Who makes Wacker Neuson compaction equipment?
Wacker Neuson SE is based in Munich and listed on the Frankfurt stock exchange. Its story starts in 1848, when Johann Christian Wacker opened a forge in Dresden. In 1930 Hermann Wacker invented the world’s first electric rammer, and Wacker Neuson says that on building sites, using a rammer is still called “to wacker”. Wacker brought out its first reversible vibratory plate in 1973 and its first articulated trench roller, the RT820, in 1991. In 2007 Wacker merged with Neuson Kramer to form today’s Wacker Neuson Group, whose brands also include Kramer and Weidemann.
Wacker Neuson’s rammers, vibratory plates, breakers and its own two-stroke engines are developed and made at Reichertshofen in Germany, its trench rollers at Menomonee Falls in the USA, and its dumpers and excavators at Hörsching, near Linz in Austria. In the UK, Wacker Neuson Ltd in Stafford sells the range and its spare parts through dealers across the UK and Ireland.
Plate or rammer: which do I need?
Wacker Neuson’s advice is that rammers suit trenches, building corners and cohesive soils such as clay and loam, while vibratory plates suit larger open areas and non-cohesive or mixed ground such as sand, gravel and chippings, and with a paving pad, block paving and asphalt. For block paving, it suggests a plate of up to 130 kg and about 18 kN for pavers up to 6 cm thick, and 170 to 200 kg with at least 20 kN for 8 to 10 cm pavers.
Wacker Neuson BPS forward plates
The BPS series, launched in 2021, are petrol forward plates for soil and asphalt. They have angled base plate edges for a clean finish against kerbs, hand-arm vibration below 5 m/s², an 8 litre water tank with sprinkler on the water versions, and a heavy-duty V-belt that needs no clutch adjustment. They come with Honda or Briggs & Stratton engines.
| Model | Force | Width | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| BPS1030A | 10 kN | 320 mm | 58 kg |
| BPS1135A | 11 kN | 350 mm | 64 kg |
| BPS1340A | 13 kN | 400 mm | 74 kg |
| BPS1550A | 15 kN | 500 mm | 90 kg |
| BPS2050A | 20 kN | 500 mm | 100 kg |
Figures are from Wacker Neuson’s March 2026 operator’s manual for the Honda versions, without the water tank: the BPS1030A, BPS1135A and BPS1340A have a Honda GX120 engine, and the BPS1550A and BPS2050A a Honda GX160. The water tank version, such as the BPS1135Aw, adds 5 to 6 kg.
Wacker Neuson DPU reversible plates
The lightweight DPU reversible plates run on Hatz diesel engines, with an integrated wheel set and a foldable lifting eye. Electric start is an option on the DPU3050, DPU3060, DPU3750 and DPU3760, shown by the “e” in models such as the DPU3060He.
| Model | Force | Width | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| DPU2540H | 25 kN | 400 mm | 160 kg |
| DPU2550H | 25 kN | 500 mm | 166 kg |
| DPU3050H | 30 kN | 500 mm | 181 to 206 kg |
| DPU3060H | 30 kN | 600 mm | 190 to 215 kg |
| DPU3750H | 37 kN | 500 mm | 247 to 265 kg |
| DPU3760H | 37 kN | 600 mm | 274 kg |
Figures are from Wacker Neuson’s 2025 compaction brochure. The DPU25 models have a Hatz 1B20 diesel engine and the DPU30 and DPU37 models a Hatz 1B30. Heavier DPU plates run up to 110 kN, and the remote-controlled DPU130r to 130 kN.

How do I read a Wacker Neuson model number?
Wacker Neuson explains its plate codes in its manuals, and once you know the pattern the model number tells you most of the spec:
- First letter, the drive: B petrol, D diesel, A battery.
- PS or PU: PS runs forward only, PU is reversible.
- The numbers: the first two are the compaction force in kN, the next two the plate width in cm.
- The engine letter: A Honda, B Briggs & Stratton, H Hatz, Y Yanmar.
- Options: e electric start, h hour meter, w water sprinkling, s wheel set, r remote control.
So a BPS1135Aw is a petrol forward plate with 11 kN of force, 35 cm wide, a Honda engine and a water tank, and a DPU3060He is a diesel reversible plate with 30 kN, 60 cm wide, a Hatz engine and electric start. Rammers work the same way: a BS68-2/28 is a petrol rammer in the 68 kg class, with a two-stroke drive and a 28 cm shoe.
Wacker Neuson rammers and trench rollers
Wacker Neuson says it is the only maker of two-stroke rammers, which run on its own WM80 engine with a catalytic converter as standard. The current two-stroke models are the BS30, the BS62-2 (58 kg, 17 kN) and the BS68-2 (64 kg, 19 kN), alongside four-stroke, diesel and battery rammers. We also list parts for the BS50-2, BS60-2 and BS70-2. Their “plus” versions carry oil in a separate tank, so the fuel does not need premixing.

Wacker Neuson’s articulated trench rollers have cleated drums that convert from 82 cm to a narrower width for trenches, and are driven by an infrared remote that stops the machine if the operator gets closer than 2 m. The model on Wacker Neuson’s UK site now is the RTD-SC4, at 1,456 kg, and we list parts for the RT56-SC, RT56-SC2, RT82-SC and RT82-SC2.

Which Wacker Neuson parts do you stock?

Where is the type label on a Wacker Neuson?
Wacker Neuson machines carry a type label, and the engine has its own. The label gives the type, the material number, the machine version, the machine number and the year of construction, which Wacker Neuson says you need for ordering spare parts. On BS rammers it sits on the lower housing, just above the bellows. Send us the type and machine number, or a photo of the label, and we will find the part.
Servicing Wacker Neuson plates and rammers
These intervals are from Wacker Neuson’s operator’s manuals:
- BPS forward plates: change the engine oil after the first 20 hours. Each day, check the engine oil, air intake and fixings. Each month, clean the air filter and check the V-belt tension. Every 100 hours, change the engine oil, clean the sediment cup and check the spark plug.
- DPU reversible plates (Hatz diesel): change the engine oil after the first 25 hours. Each month, check the exciter oil and the V-belt tension. Every 250 hours, change the engine oil and the exciter oil, and every 500 hours the fuel filter and air cleaner.
- BS50-2, BS60-2 and BS70-2 rammers: each day, clean the air filter and check the ramming system oil. Each week or 25 hours, check the foot plate screws and clean the cooling fins and spark plug. Change the ramming system oil every 200 hours (the first change after 50), and replace the spark plug yearly.
- BS62-2 and BS68-2 rammers: clean the air filter every 100 hours or six months, and change the ramming system oil and spark plug every 200 hours or yearly (the first oil change after 50 hours). The air cleaner cover needs a tool, so the rammer goes to a workshop for that service.
