Benford, Terex and Mecalac dumpers: do the parts fit?

Often, yes. Benford, Terex and Mecalac site dumpers are one product line that has changed badge twice (Benford from 1953, Terex from 1999, Mecalac from 2017), so dumpers from the same model family frequently share parts whichever name is on the machine. Specifications changed over the years and between serial number ranges, though, so check the part against your machine’s serial number before ordering, or ask the parts desk at SM Plant Sales in Rugby on 01788 555377.

  • The Benford site dumper range dates back to 1953.
  • Terex bought Benford in 1999. Mecalac agreed to buy Terex’s UK construction business in December 2016, and the deal completed in 2017.
  • 730 of the 732 Terex dumper parts we list are also listed under Benford dumpers.
  • All 289 Terex roller parts we list are also in the Benford roller range.
  • Our Parts by machine finder lists 28 Mecalac, Terex and Benford machines.

Why do Benford, Terex and Mecalac dumpers share parts?

They share parts because they are largely the same machines under different owners. Each new owner carried the existing model lines on rather than starting again, so a dumper built under one badge often has a close relative built under the next.

Models that share a page, such as the TA6 and TA6S (384 parts), are close variants that use many of the same parts. Each family’s other models are in the finder under the same make.

How do I tell which badge and model I have?

Read the model from the decals or the serial plate, and take the serial number from the plate. Colour is a clue, as Benford machines were yellow and Terex brought in white livery, but dumpers get repainted and re-decalled over a long working life, so trust the plate over the paint.

If the plate is missing or unreadable, send the parts desk photos of the machine and of the part you need, plus any numbers you can find on the frame or engine.

Why does the serial number still matter?

The serial number matters because the same model name covers machines built years apart. Over the life of a model line, makers change engines, hydraulic components, electrics, guards and cabs, often part-way through production, and parts lists record the change by serial number.

Mecalac’s 2025 update is a clear example. To meet EN 474, the whole range moved to hydrostatic transmission and gained side mirrors, an inclinometer, extra side protection with ROPS on the 6 and 9 tonne models, and a front camera on every model except the TA1. A dumper built after that change and an earlier one with the same model name can need different parts in those areas.

The same applies across badges. A Terex TA6 and a Mecalac TA6 may share most of their parts and still differ in a few. The serial number settles which.

How does SM Plant Sales list Benford, Terex and Mecalac parts?

Where Benford and Terex machines share a part, we list it in both ranges, so you find it whichever badge is on your machine. Each part page also shows the machines it fits, where known, and searching by part number finds it in any range.

Prices are shown ex VAT, with a switch on the site to show them inc VAT.

What about Thwaites dumpers?

Thwaites is a separate manufacturer with its own model numbers, so its parts sit in their own range. Our finder lists 66 Thwaites machines, from the MACH 020 to the MACH 2290, and the Thwaites dumper range has 80 parts. Wacker Neuson dumpers, from the DV45 to the DV125, are in the Wacker Neuson range.

How do I order the right part for a Benford, Terex or Mecalac dumper?

  1. Take the model and serial number from the serial plate.
  2. Find your machine in Parts by machine and look for the part.
  3. If you have a part number, search for it: the result shows whichever range it is listed in.
  4. Check the part page lists your machine among those it fits.
  5. If you are unsure, WhatsApp a photo of the old part and the serial plate to 07989 556457, or call 01788 555377, Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5pm.

As the Mecalac dealer for site dumpers across the Midlands since 2018, we sell new Mecalac dumpers as well as parts for the Benford and Terex machines that came before them. Our guide to finding the right part covers serial plates, superseded numbers and what to send.

Questions

Is a Terex TA6 the same as a Mecalac TA6?

They are the same model line under different badges, so they often share parts, but specifications changed over the years. Match parts by serial number; the TA6 / TA6S page in our finder lists 384 parts.

Are Benford dumpers still made?

Not under the Benford name. The machines were rebadged Terex after Terex bought Benford in 1999, and since 2017 the line has been built in Coventry by Mecalac.

Who makes the old Terex site dumpers now?

Mecalac. It agreed to buy Terex’s UK site dumper, roller and backhoe loader business in December 2016, completed the deal in 2017, and carried on building the dumpers in Coventry under the Mecalac name.

Can I still get parts for an old Benford PT dumper?

For many models, yes. Our finder lists PS and PT dumpers from the PS2000 / PT2000 to the PT10000, with 50 to 174 parts per model. If the part you need is not listed, ask the parts desk on 01788 555377.

Do Benford roller parts fit Terex rollers?

In our catalogue, all 289 Terex roller parts are also listed in the Benford roller range, because the rollers are the same design under different badges. Check the serial number for parts that changed during production.

Is SM Plant Sales a Mecalac dealer?

Yes. Mecalac appointed SM Plant Sales in Rugby as a dealer for its site dumpers across the Midlands in November 2018, covering sales, service agreements, maintenance checks and aftersales support.
